More than 400 students, community members, faculty and staff filled the Millsaps Bowl on Sunday afternoon as Chelsea Clinton, daughter of presidential candidate Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and former president Bill Clinton, answered questions during an hour-long informal appearance.
The former first daughter responded to the audience regarding her mother’s position on policies including college affordability, the war in Iraq, healthcare, education, immigration reform and foreign policy. Millsaps was Clinton’s 63rd college stop since Sen. Clinton began her presidential campaign last year.
The event was sponsored by the Millsaps Young Democrats of America as presidential candidates prepared for the Mississippi primary on Tuesday, March 11. Past political figures to visit the Millsaps campus include John Stennis, Richard Nixon, Robert Kennedy, Strom Thurman, George Bush, Jimmy Carter and Margaret Thatcher.
Millsaps College does not endorse any candidate seeking elected office or any political party. The college does support critical thinking and analysis of political candidates by its students, faculty and staff, and encourages them to become civically engaged in the American democratic process.
