Ronald C. White, Jr., an acclaimed scholar of Abraham Lincoln, is scheduled to speak on February 24 at 7 p.m. in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall at Millsaps College.
White, author of the recently published biography of Abraham Lincoln, A. Lincoln: A Biography, is speaking throughout the United States in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lincoln on February 12. White’s book is in its third printing and is on the New York Times Best Sellers List. The book starts with Lincoln’s birth and ends with his assassination in 1865.
White is also the author of Lincoln’s Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural and The Eloquent President: A Portrait of Lincoln Through His Words.
Lincoln’s Greatest Speech was honored as a New York Times Notable Book and was a Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle bestseller. The Eloquent President was a selection of the History Book Club and the Book-of-the-Month Club and was a Los Angeles Times bestseller.
White is a graduate of UCLA and Princeton Theological Seminary. He earned a doctorate in religion and history from Princeton. He has taught at UCLA, Whitworth University, Colorado College, Princeton Theological Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary He has lectured on Abraham Lincoln at the White House and been interviewed on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
White is the final speaker of the 2008-2009 Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series.
