"Disappearances" to Screen at Millsaps

(10/31/07)

Kris Kristofferson and Genevieve Bujold star in “Disappearances,” a Jay Craven film. Millsaps College will present the award-winning Craven and his film as part of the Southern Circuit tour of independent filmmakers at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, in room 215 of the Ford Academic Complex.

Following the film, Craven will engage the audience in a discussion of the film and his work as a filmmaker. The movie and discussion are free and open to the public. For directions or more information, contact Austin Wilson at 601-974-1305 or wilsola@millsaps.edu.

“Disappearances” is based on the novel of the same name by Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher. A Prohibition-era thriller, “Disappearances” may be set in the frigid Vermont wilderness, but it has undeniable echoes of Faulknerian drama, complete with mysterious family relations, eerie mystical realism and a fascination with things past and passing.

The evening will also include an opening short, David Meyers’ “Wood Diary.” The short follows a less-than-ordinary man over the course of one day and shows the audience what it takes most people a lifetime to learn.

The Southern Circuit Film Series is organized by the Southern Arts Federation in conjunction with the South Carolina Arts Commission. It is funded locally by Millsaps College with the generous support of the Mississippi Humanities Council and the Mississippi Film Office.
