The Lewis Art Gallery at Millsaps College will host a solo exhibition of oil paintings and works on paper by SusanMaakestad beginning Monday, September 24. Maakestad is associate professor of art at Memphis College of Art in Memphis, Tenn. “I am interested in the spaces between things, the unnoticed marginal spaces in the urban landscape,” she says in her artist statement. “Likewise, as a painter I like painting in that precarious place between abstraction and naturalism. I find inspiration in ordinary urban places such as parking lots and intersections.”
“Urban Abstraction” will run through Friday, October 26.
