On Friday, April 20th, Millsaps College students, faculty, and staff gathered together to show support of the Virginia Tech community. Members of the Millsaps community dressed in orange and maroon and assembled in the Bowl, where a photo was taken to commemorate the event. The photo, as well as a giant card signed by members of the Millsaps Community, will be sent to Virginia Tech as a sign of Millsaps’ support and solidarity during such a tragic time. Organized by Dr. Stephen Black and the psychology department, the “Hokie Hope” event was inspired by the Orange and Maroon Effect, a movement that invites attendees of Virginia Tech athletic events to wear only maroon and orange.
A Message from Dr. Frances Lucas, President, and the Millsaps College Community
We join with members of other educational institutions across the country who share a great sadness for the devastating loss of students and faculty at Virginia Tech. The tragic circumstances compel us to grieve along with those directly touched. We recognize the immense pain experienced by a college community when its members are harmed.
These sentiments were expressed by Millsaps College faculty, students and staff at a candlelight vigil held Monday evening on campus where attendees sought healing, understanding and hope for those affected and for our hurting nation.
We continue to pray that the Virginia Tech leadership will find the strength needed to support the families of those lost and the entire campus community during this difficult time.
