(August 8, 2003)

Dr. Brit KatzDr. Brit Katz has recently accepted a position as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Millsaps College. In his new role, Katz will provide leadership for support staff working in varsity athletics, counseling, the Millsaps health center, multicultural affairs, residence life, judicial affairs, the Millsaps career center, campus recreation, Greek life and student leadership, orientation, programming and publications.

"Dr. Katz has 17 years of strong experience in student development at four universities," said Millsaps President Dr. Frances Lucas. "He is both a scholar and an administrator, and he will be a remarkable addition to our leadership team."

Before coming to Millsaps, Katz served as Assistant Dean of Campus Life and Director of Residence Life at Emory University. At Emory, he managed a 235-person support staff and was responsible for campus programs, residence life, programming and departmental strategic planning. In addition, Katz has taught a variety of classes, including courses in Greek mythology and higher education administration.

Katz also planned and implemented several new programs during his tenure at Emory, including the Crystal Apples Awards, which honor faculty members who demonstrate excellent teaching skills; the Peer Mediation Network; the Campus Life Awards of Service; and Peace by Peace, a student conflict resolution organization. He is an active member of the Southern Association of College Student Affairs and has provided past leadership for the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference, Sigma Nu International fraternity and the Louisiana Association of Housing Officers.

"I have been aware of Millsaps' reputation for notable academic achievement and community service for some time, and I am deeply honored and humbled by the invitation to join the Millsaps community," said Katz. "I am committed to meeting as many members of the faculty, staff and student body as possible in the immediate weeks, and I look forward to serving a college with such a dynamic future."
