Almost 40 years to the
day (November 22, 1963) since President Kennedy's assassination,
the Millsaps College Arts & Lecture Series presented one of
the most acclaimed historians of the American presidency, Robert
Dallek, speaking about his latest work, An Unfinished Life: The
Story of JFK.
In what is certain to
become a definitive biography, Dallek balances JFK's public and
private weaknesses with his many strengths. He creates a vivid portrait
of a bold, brave, and very huan president.
Currently professor of
history at Boston University, Dallek is the author of six previous
books, including a two-volume biography of Lyndon Johnson, Lone
Star Rising, and Franklin D. Roosevelt and American Foreign Policy,
1932-1945, which won the prestigious Bancroft Prize. He is also
a frequent commentator on current events, appearing regularly on
NPR, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and MSNBC with Brian Williams.
"This was a particularly
timely program, coming as it is so near the 40th anniversary of
Kennedy's assassination," said Luran Buchanan, Director of
the Millsaps College Arts & Lecture Series. "Dallek is
the definitive biographer for President Kennedy. He was the one
who broke the news about JFK's intern, which made all the news programs
recently."
