Millsaps' Else School of Management honored by BizEd magazine

(October 4, 2002)

BizEd, the business magazine of AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, focuses on six extraordinary AACSB International - accredited business schools every year. The Else School of Management at Millsaps College is featured in the September/October issue.

The spotlight article gives special praise to the Else School's unique Renaissance MBA (RMBA) program, a program that combines traditional business concepts and managerial skills with core liberal arts study. Students in the RMBA program read classic and modern works of literature and history that provide a cultural context for management topics. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad knowledge base while teaching solid business principles.

"Business leaders across the country remark that traditional MBA programs are not meeting the needs of today's businesses," states Randy Boxx, Dean of the Else School. "They seek leaders who are not limited by the boundaries of what is commonly accepted practice or established thinking. The RMBA program produces this new type of leader, one who excels not only in customary business skills but also in critical thinking and analytical problem-solving."

BizEd also lauds the Else School's study-abroad program, which gives students the opportunity to study the nuts and bolts of business in Europe and Latin America. In Europe, students visit Lloyds of London, Seimens and BMW to get a firsthand look at a global business environment. In Mexico, they study at Kaxil Kiuic, an economy based on subsistence farming and hunting; at Merida, an area rich in industrial development; and at Cancun, a thriving tourist economy.

The publication also praises the Else School's student internship program and award-winning student portfolio management team. By providing students with real-world situations in which to hone their skills, the RMBA further enhances the curriculum available in traditional MBA programs.

BizEd magazine's opinion is clear: whether studying Machiavelli's The Prince in a management class on campus or touring a production plant in Europe, students at the Millsaps Else School of Management are gaining a global education.
