Millsaps College will be offering 73 fun, noncredit courses for
adults, beginning Monday, September 22. Classes in art, languages
and literature, home and garden, computers, dancing, business and
music will be among those offered.
Among new classes are Creating Home and Business Videos, Meditation
for Everyone, Star Gazing 101, Preparing for a College Search, Understanding
Modern Art, Learn Spanish in a Day, Fiction Writers' Workshop, and
Pilates.
The Fiction Writers' Workshop, led by Gerry Wilson, invites writers
with some experience to bring their own "works-in-progress"short
stories, chapters of an unfinished novel, or true life storiesto
share constructive feedback in this supportive setting. "The
group will focus primarily on revision strategies but will also
review basic writing elements, analyze works that illustrate good
technique, and explore writing prompts to generate new ideas,"
Wilson says. Wilson is also offering a one-day poetry workshop which
will emphasize imagery and figurative language, structure, and sound.
Always popular classes such as pottery, sculpture, beginning drawing,
conversational French, gardening, landscape design, photography,
tai chi, and yoga will also be offered. This season's dancing lineup
include social (ballroom) dancing, Latin dance, Irish dance, and
belly dancing for fitness.
Computer classes for fall include web design, Microsoft PowerPoint,
digital camera basics, and introduction to computing and Windows.
Money and business classes offered include basics of investing,
business and dining etiquette, and how to improve your business
writing skills.
