Millsaps Announces Fall Enrichment Course

Millsaps College will be offering 73 fun, noncredit courses for adults, beginning Monday, September 22. Classes in art, languages and literature, home and garden, computers, dancing, business and music will be among those offered.

Among new classes are Creating Home and Business Videos, Meditation for Everyone, Star Gazing 101, Preparing for a College Search, Understanding Modern Art, Learn Spanish in a Day, Fiction Writers' Workshop, and Pilates.

The Fiction Writers' Workshop, led by Gerry Wilson, invites writers with some experience to bring their own "works-in-progress"–short stories, chapters of an unfinished novel, or true life stories–to share constructive feedback in this supportive setting. "The group will focus primarily on revision strategies but will also review basic writing elements, analyze works that illustrate good technique, and explore writing prompts to generate new ideas," Wilson says. Wilson is also offering a one-day poetry workshop which will emphasize imagery and figurative language, structure, and sound.

Always popular classes such as pottery, sculpture, beginning drawing, conversational French, gardening, landscape design, photography, tai chi, and yoga will also be offered. This season's dancing lineup include social (ballroom) dancing, Latin dance, Irish dance, and belly dancing for fitness.

Computer classes for fall include web design, Microsoft PowerPoint, digital camera basics, and introduction to computing and Windows.

Money and business classes offered include basics of investing, business and dining etiquette, and how to improve your business writing skills.
