The closely
followed rankings of U.S. News & World Report magazine
have once again listed Millsaps College as one of the best buys
in higher education. This year's survey ranks the College 20th among
national liberal arts colleges considered "Great Schools at
Great Prices." U.S. News & World Report has consistently
applauded Millsaps for its value since the College debuted on the
prestigious Best Value list in 1998.
Additionally,
Millsaps is in the top third of all national liberal arts colleges.
According to U.S. News, the 217 national liberal arts schools
tend to have more rigorous admissions standards and require a higher
college entrance exam score than those in the regional category.
"We are
recognized as an educational leader because of our nationally recognized
programs and faculty. Millsaps offers a challenging academic environment
that prepares our students for successful and meaningful lives,"
states Millsaps president Dr. Frances Lucas-Tauchar. "While
we appreciate our standing in national rankings, it is our distinguished
reputation among students, parents, alumni, and employers that we
find most gratifying."
U.S. News
determines educational value by three weighted factors: (1) ratio
of quality (determined by overall score in the rankings) to price,
(2) percentage of undergraduates receiving grants meeting their
financial need, and (3) the percentage of the school's total costs
covered by the average need-based grant to undergraduates.
Millsaps has
continually been referenced in national rankings that cite factors
such as academic quality and value. The only Mississippi institution
of higher learning to be named in the Fiske Guide to Colleges,
Millsaps is also the one of only four national liberal arts college
in the U.S. to hold both a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and accreditation
of its B.B.A. and M.B.A. business programs by AACSB International
- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
