COURSE
DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES
Private studio lessons for
non-music and music majors.
Students will study appropriate
literature for their vocal
development and will work
to develop technical skills
needed for singing.
Each
student should develop his/her
vocal skills through growth
in performance skills as well
as basic technical skills.
Sightreading skill should
improve if this is an area
in which the student is not
strong. Students registered
for 2 credit will study at
least ten songs or arias during
the semester with six from
memory. Students at 1 credit
will study at least six songs
or arias during the semester,
memorizing at least three.
A jury for faculty will be
presented at the end of the
semester.
ACCOMPANISTS
Janette
Sudderth will
be accompanying many of the
singers in the class. When
you prepare to sing for class,
please give a copy of your
music to her in advance and
check with her about any possible
rehearsal time. Courtesy to
her should be a part of your
preparation.
Some
of you may be working with
student pianists. Please
be responsible in planning
and being on time for rehearsals
with these students. "Collaboration
with courtesy" should
be a motto for your preparation
and performances together.
HONOR
CODE
The
Millsaps Honor Code is in
effect regarding all assignments
and exams unless the professor
has stipulated that collaborative
work is acceptable. The written
pledge: "I hereby
certify that I have neither
given nor received unauthorized
aid on this assignment. (Signature)"
should be placed on assignments
and exams.
If
any student in the class has
special needs because of a learning
disability or other disability,
please see me after class to
discuss necessary accommodations.
