CLASS OBJECTIVES

Making music through an instrument such as the piano can be one of the most personal statements human beings can give to the world. No text, just music . . . and it is audible to all who may be listening! Yet remember, the art of making music takes patience, personal commitment, and a certain amount of time and energy. Therefore, all students must be devoted to practice a specific amount of time in order to find true pleasure in playing such a wonderful instrument. If you are a beginning piano students with no previous musical background, you are essentially learning a new language starting from the alphabet. And if you are a more advanced student, you will find that you will need to devote even more time and energy to fully express what you may be hearing in your head and/or your heart. With the proper amount of time given, the rewards can be extremely gratifying, no matter what your level! All piano instruction at Millsaps is given one on one. We also meet once a week as a group to play and experience the music together. But primarily, I will be working with all of you individually. Obviously, my expectations will be more intense in the private piano lesson since each of you will be on the spot for the entire lesson time, no chance to hide behind other students! Therefore come to your lesson prepared so you can fully realize your own personal expectations as to why you chose to study piano.
