Core 10 Reflective Paper
Your Core 10 paper should be a thoughtful, evaluative reflection on your
experience at Millsaps College. Think of this as an opportunity to reflect
deeply on your college experience.
In your paper, focus your attention on specific texts you have read, musical
works you have studied, courses you have taken, the academic challenges you
have confronted, the social experiences that left a deep impression on you.
How have your Core courses complemented your studies in music? In what ways
have you found important connections between them? Do you believe that you
have benefited from Millsaps' emphasis on specific liberal arts abilities?
If so, how, exactly?
Do you feel prepared to move on to the next phase of your life? What were
your hopes and expectations when you first came to Millsaps? Have these hopes
and expectations been realized? Have they changed? If so, how? In what way?
You may find it helpful to consider readings about the value of the liberal
arts introduced to you in Liberal Studies or other Core courses.
Your paper will be evaluated on the depth and specificity of your analysis
as well as the clarity, creativity, and organization of your prose. Length:
around eight pages. Please turn in three copies. Your paper will be evaluated
by your instructor and other core teachers. Consider submitting your paper
for consideration for the Laney Award. I recommend that you read at least
two of the Laney Award-winning papers from previous years, to get an idea
of what Millsaps seniors are writing about.
