Pianist
Lynn Raley will play a faculty recital that includes Frederic Rzewski's popular
Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues, one of his four "North American"
Ballads" for piano. Written in 1979, it is a free fantasy on a blues tune
that emerged from the labor struggles in the textile mills of the south in the
1930s. (The tune was later recorded by Pete Seeger.) Also on the program is Haydn's
last sonata, the E-flat Hob. XVI:52, and works by Schubert and Liszt.
