Wahrle Named to
USA Today Academic Team

Suzanne Wahrle, who graduated in May as Founders Medalist, is one of 20 students nationwide named to USA Today’s 1999 All-USA College Academic First Team.

The Academic First Team was chosen by a panel of educators from a list of 1,000 students nominated by colleges in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Winners were selected in a rigorous process based on academic excellence, leadership roles, and a desire to improve the lives of others.

“These 20 students stand out because of their brilliance, their daring and their caring,” says Tom Curley, USA Today publisher.

Wahrle, a biology major at Millsaps, is driven by a strong interest in research and an intense desire to reduce human suffering. She plans to become a physician researcher, working to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. She is now a lab technician in an Alzheimer’s research center and will enter an M.D./Ph.D program in molecular neuroscience next year.

“Suzanne’s recognition is a credit to her hard work and emphasis on improving the lives of others,” says President George Harmon. “I have no doubt she will go on to do many great things for society.”

Wahrle is the daughter of Bruce and Barbara Hogue of Lakewood, Colorado.
