Dr. Allen Bishop, Professor of Chemistry and Director of aca-demic Computing, was named Outstanding Educator of the Year by the United Methodist Foundation for Christian Higher Educa- tion. George M. Miller, President/ CEO of the Foundation, presented the award during the Millsaps Awards Day ceremony.

The foundation, established in 1964, fosters the growth and development of United Methodist-related institutions of higher education. Each year, the foundation selects a faculty member from 123 United Methodist institutions who has had an extraordinary impact upon his or her students, peers, institution, church, and community.

Bishop has taught at Millsaps for more than 30 years and has inspired students and colleagues with his energy, enthusiasm, and dedication. He has been a leader in bringing computing and information techno- logy to campus to enhance teaching and learning.

In 1998, Bishop received Millsaps’s highest honor, the Distinguished Professor Award. With the Educator of the Year Award, Dr. Bishop received a $5,000 cash prize and was the Keynote Speaker at the Division of Higher Education Summer Institute in Nashville on June 20.
