U.S. News Ranks Millsaps 3rd “Best Value”

In its fall 1999 issue on American colleges and universities, U.S. News & World Report ranked Millsaps 3rd among national
liberal arts colleges for best value. This represents a steady rise in the closely followed “value” measurements that prospective students and parents use to determine the best education for the best price. In addition, Millsaps remained in the top half of national liberal arts colleges for the third year in a row.

”Achieving the #3 national ranking for value is a pleasant surprise that validates our commitment to providing an Ivy League quality education at a reasonable price,” states President Harmon.

U.S. News determines value through three weighted factors: (1) quality of the college (from the general survey rankings) divided by the average cost to a student, (2) percentage of undergraduates receiving grants meeting their financial need, and (3) the percentage of the school’s total costs covered by the average need-based grant to undergraduates.

Millsaps continues to move up in the national rankings based upon academic quality, value, and operating efficiency. In 1998, U.S. News ranked Millsaps 6th among national liberal arts colleges for operating efficiency. In the same year, Money Magazine positioned Millsaps 67th overall among national colleges and universities on their “Best Buy” list.
