While no electoral college votes were at stake, the campaign for Millsaps was a close one! In the Homecoming election, alumni, students, and visitors voted: George W. Bush, 90; Al Gore, 72; Frances Lucas-Tauchar, 12; Ralph Nader, 8; Pat Buchanan, 1. Millsaps President Lucas-Tauchar expressed thanks to her supporters and inquired about the legality of applying the Federal matching funds to the endowment.

Homecoming 2000 included something for everyone: a 5K run, a stunning concert, a Lewis Art Gallery show, a picnic in the Bowl, children’s games, alumni seminars, reunion parties, the Sports Hall of Fame luncheon, and the homecoming football game against Centre College.

Though the Majors lost to the Colonels 17-29, there was a bright note on the field at halftime with the recognition of the 1980 Season players and the homecoming court. Laura Warrene Ferry, a senior from Laurel, was crowned the 2000-2001 Queen. The homecoming court also included Sarah Alice Spaulding, Mary Frances Prejean, Mary Catherine Shull, and Vaughan Hampton Jinks.
