Millsaps Magazine is published by Millsaps College, 1701 N. State Street, Jackson MS 39210-0001, for distribution to alumni, parents of students, and friends of the college.  Please send alumni updates, address corrections, and other news to Millsaps Magazine, care of the above address.

Quality shows.  When we in the Office of Communications first began meeting with advisors and among ourselves about launching the Millsaps Magazine, we returned again and again to that same basic truism: quality shows.  Quality shows in all aspects of life, whether one is discussing a finely wrought work of art, or a rewarding education, or even a college magazine.
We have worked hard to make the Millsaps Magazine a work of quality, to make it something worth keeping and worth passing along to others.  Our editorial outlook is simple: knowledge is its own reward, and it not only can be - it must be - exciting.
In these first quarterly pages, you will find standing departments and in-depth features that provide not only information, but reflection too.  Our staff learned something new about the college in every article, and we believe you will too.
For instance, do you know where the current student body presidents of the Duke Divinity School and Yale Divinity School earned their undergraduate degrees?  Hint: It begins with "M," and its mascot is the Major.
Campus events, alumni promotions, student achievements, faculty projects: it's all here in clearly organized sections.  Every issue will lead with Campus News, but some departments, such as books by faculty and alumni, will appear as dictated by the number of submissions we receive for it.  So if you don't see everything you want in one issue, look for it in the next one.  And please tell us if we are not providing what you want often enough, or in the form you desire.  After all, this is your magazine.
As to style, expect clear and concise communication through well-chosen words and photographs.  We will follow accepted style guides and otherwise obey the rules, but we won't hesitate to infuse a little jazz with a startling image or statement of opinion.  We do aspire to be lively.
We established the Millsaps Magazine to provide greater insight into what makes Millsaps the distinguished institution that it is today.  Our goal is not sheer reportage so much as the steady articulation of the value of a Millsaps education.
With so much to be proud of, it is hard to resist raising a few celebratory shouts.  But we will not try to tell you everything about Millsaps in these pages, or even most things about it.  Rather we will seek to convey a sense of the college and the college family.
In this inaugural issue, we follow students through the dusty Yucatan, an alumnus through the world of film-making, and others through their extraordinary daily lives, closing with a captivating parting photo.  Please let us know what you think of our efforts.   And look for the second issue this summer.

Best wishes,
