Schrader Receives
USA Today Award

For the third year in a row, a Millsaps student was named by USA Today to its All-USA 2000 College Academic Team. Melanie Schrader, a senior biology major, received honorable mention from the national publication.

Schrader maintained a 4.0 gpa at Millsaps and was named the Founders Medalist at commencement. She plans to obtain
a medical degree and a Ph.D. in order to pursue a career in medical research, emphasizing antibiotic resistance, the development of new antibiotics, and the impact these studies will have on the public.

"I'm very excited about this honor," says Schrader. "I think my having been named to this elite list of students speaks volumes about the educational and research opportunities available to Millsaps students."

Last year, Schrader received the Tribette Scholarship, which is awarded to the junior with the highest gpa; the general chemistry award; and a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. She serves as treasurer of Chi Omega sorority and is a student group leader in the Perspectives Program. She is a member of numerous leadership and service honoraries, and the Campus Ministry Team. She is also involved with genetics research at Millsaps with Dr. Sarah Lea McGuire. She is the daughter of Dr. Edward L. and Myra Schrader of Clinton.
