Bey Named Distinguished
Professor of the Year


Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology George James Bey III was presented with the Distinguished Professor Award at Commencement. The award recognizes faculty members who inspire students toward their best efforts through their excellence as teachers, and whose writing, research, and artistic accomplishments are of the highest quality and serve to enhance their teaching and the learning of students. The award carries a prize of $5,000. Since joining the faculty in 1990, Professor Bey has led the way in the development of a nationally respected anthropology program at the College. He has also been actively engaged in teaching courses in the core curriculum, Women Studies, and European Studies. While he has directed numerous student field research projects, he is best known for his work in the Yucatan – first at Ek Balam and now at Rancho Kiuic.
