Southern Literary
Festival on Campus
Millsaps will host the Southern Literary Festival on April 9-10. Student
and faculty representatives from several Southern
colleges and universities will participate in readings, writing workshops,
panel discussions, and creative writing competitions.
Greg Miller, President of the Southern Literary
Festival Association and Chair of the Millsaps English Department, says,
"In hosting the Festival, Millsaps will continue its long tradition of
nurturing and celebrating literary excellence."
Poet Laureate of the United States Robert
Pinsky will give the keynote address on Saturday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in
the AC Recital Hall. He is the author of five books of poetry, three books
of prose, and a widely acclaimed translation of Dante’s Inferno.
The Southern Literary Festival Association
has held festivals and literary competitions annually since 1937 to promote
creative writing among college students.
Millsaps College received a grant from
the Mississippi Arts Commission in partial support of the festival.
