Course Descriptions and Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • A strong desire to live in a French environment and learn French
  • Signing the pledge to speak French in France, in and out of class
  • Attendance at all class meetings. The final grade will be lowered for each absence.

BASIC COURSE INFO

  • Classes are held at the France Langue School
  • All classes with France Langue staff are supervised by Millsaps faculty
  • Classes are small in order to permit as much individual assistance as possible
  • On the first Monday morning in Nice, all students will take a placement test at France Langue and, depending on their level and class availability, attend class either in the morning (Tuesday to Friday, 8:45-12:30) or in the afternoon (Monday to Friday, 1 to 4 p.m.). Classes are usually taught by two professors, one in grammar and the other in conversation.

COURSES AVAILABLE

Students are required to take one course with France Langue staff. Tuition for this course is included in the cost of the program.

  • French 1010 - Elementary French
    Prerequisite: French 1000 or placement test score
  • French 2000 - Intermediate French
    Prerequisite: French 1010 or placement test score
  • French 2110 Contemporary French Culture
    Prerequisite: French 2000, or its equivalent, or placement test score
  • French 2750 Grammar and Conversation level 1
    Prerequisite: French 2110, or its equivalent, or placement test score
  • French 3750 Grammar and Conversation level 2
    Prerequisite: French 2110, or its equivalent, or placement test score, and at least one literature course
  • French 4750 Grammar and Conversation level 3
    Prerequisite: French 2110, or its equivalent, or placement test score, and at least two literature courses (or French 3750 in France)
  • French 4750 Grammar and Conversation level 4
    Prerequisite: French 2110, or its equivalent, or placement test score, and at least two literature courses (or French 4750 level 3 in France)

 

Students may enroll for a second course taught by Millsaps faculty and pay Millsaps tuition

  • French 3750 The French Short Story

For additional courses, the Millsaps summer school tuition will be due April 17.
