Topics for Reaction Papers:

Response Paper #1

Your response paper should be typed with your name at the top. After reading the three reflective essays in The Promenade, write about the essay that you felt was most effective (N.B.: this is not the same thing as writing about the essay that you enjoyed the most). Explain what you think made it the most effective essay (narration, reflection, writing style, something else). Your response paper should be at least a full page in length.

Response Paper #2

Your response paper should be typed with your name at the top. You have already written a free write response to the last sentence in Fahy's article and exchanged responses with a classmate. Type in your classmate's free write in one font/style. Then, switch fonts/styles and respond with your own ideas. Focus on the ideas. What sort of arguments are being made? Where do you agree and disagree? Why? How does this all relate back to the arguments that Fahy and Grixti make in their respective articles? Your response paper should be at least a full page in length.

Response Paper #3

Your response paper should be typed with your name at the top. Identify the key ethical issue in each of the three ethics essays from the Promenade. Once you have identified the key ethical issues, compare the issues. Do they revolve around similar sets of issues? Would people that feel strongly about one of the issues tend to take similar positions with regard to the other positions? Why or why not? Your response paper should be at least a full page in length.

Response Paper #4

Find a copy of a recent news story about a serial killer online. Who’s really telling the story? Is it the author of the news piece? The killer? The lawyers? Somebody else? Analyze the story using Tithecott’s framework and argument. Pay special attention to what is spoken/expressed and what is left unspoken. What is said about things like gender, sexuality, race, and class? Why do you think they are discussed (or not discussed) in these ways?
Your response paper should be typed with your name at the top. Your response paper should be at least a full page in length.
