What is Challenge?

Challenge was created to help incoming students adjust to college life while participating in some of the great community engagement projects for which Millsaps College is known. This week-long event allows new students to meet and forge relationships with current students and other incoming classmates who share a love of volunteering and community building.

Why Should You Come?

The easy answer? You will have a ton of fun! But you should also come because you will have the chance to get to know Millsaps and the campus before move-in day; you will make lasting friendships with other incoming students; and you’ll find great ways to get involved in community engagement in Jackson. On top of all of that, you will also get the chance to register for your fall classes!

What Should You Expect?

During the day we will spend time learning about public policy and social justice challenges by talking with policy-makers and by working with local organizations in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus. After work each day, you will have the chance to get to know the campus and greater Jackson community better.

What Should You Bring?

  • clothes you don't mind getting dirty
  • comfortable clothes for free time
  • sleeping bag or bedding (full-sized!)
  • toiletries
  • towels
  • swimsuit
  • tennis shoes
  • a little extra spending money

Detailed itineraries and packing lists will be sent out the week before each event.

What is the Cost?

The cost is $200. Price includes meal costs, housing, travel, and a cool new t-shirt!
