COURSE DESCRIPTION
An introduction
to production organization, management, and equipment.
Basic theories and practices of scenic construction,
rigging, shifting, mechanical drawing, painting
and color theory. Production I Lab must be taken
concurrently -- students work backstage two afternoons
per week constructing sets for the Millsaps Players
and students will head a crew (props, lights, sound,
etc.) for one production this semester.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
To prepare students to execute the
responsibilities of beginning theatre technicians in the areas of
construction, rigging, shifting, color theory and painting. Having
satisfactorily completed the requirements for this course the student
will be able to:
1. Safely operate backstage flying
and shifting equipment.
2. Organize and properly equip a theatre scene shop.
3. Safely operate shop tools and equipment.
4. Read and interpret simple blueprints.
5. Construct standard flats, platforms, and step units.
6. Mix paint and arrive at a pre-determined color
7. Apply paint employing a variety of techniques
