Class Agents

Class Agents

The Class Agent is a valuable volunteer for Millsaps College, an important advocate for encouraging alumni to participate in college events and to give back to Millsaps through the annual fund.

Alumni of all ages respond more favorably when asked by a peer to attend college related events and to support the annual fund. These personal "asks" are particularly important in our Young Alumni classes, where annual giving participation is still developing.

Class participation is important for all of our events to be successful, especially Homecoming. Also, we want to report to all alumni, board of trustees, and our campus community, as well as foundations that our alumni percentage in giving is steadily increasing. Gifts to the Millsaps Annual Fund support:

  • Student scholarships
  • Faculty support
  • Library enhancements
  • Campus life and preservation
  • Where Millsaps needs are greatest

Class Agent Job Description

As a Class Agent, you serve as a liaison between the Institutional Advancement (IA) office and your classmates. Working with the alumni and annual giving offices, you will be involved in promoting class participation for alumni events and annual giving. The IA office will provide you with support and assistance. The job is NOT time-consuming, and the IA office will prompt you in advance of important deadlines. You will be doing a great service to Millsaps by further engaging your classmates in the life of the college and by helping the Millsaps Annual Fund secure a higher participation from your class.

While no specified level of support is associated with the position, it is expected that each Class Agent will participate in the annual fund and make the most thoughtful commitment possible.

Also, you will help to promote Homecoming and other alumni events throughout the school year. You will help the alumni branch of IA by contacting fellow alumni through letters, emails and phone calls. Again, the IA staff will provide you with all materials needed to complete the task and it will not be time-consuming.

Each Class Agent will actively support the ongoing efforts of the College by leadership and example of giving to the College, communication with classmates about goals of Millsaps and current fundraising efforts, and by reporting on your class's contributions. Serving as a Class Agent is one of the most important ways in which a graduate can serve Millsaps College.
