Personal Web Pages

Full time Millsaps employees are permitted to hold accounts on the Millsaps web in order to maintain personal websites or sites for departments or organizations. Students are allowed to request accounts on the Millsaps web for the purpose of maintaining student organization websites or other projects as approved by the appropriate unit director and the Web Manager.

Web accounts may only be used to store files that are part of a user or unit’s website or that serve as a curriculum supplement for student download. The web server is not to be used for personal media storage or for backing up files. Personal sites may not be used to host or link to web pages that are intended to generate income from personal business. Millsaps College is not responsible for personal pages, but the college reserves the right to remove any page or link in violation of applicable laws or policies.

The following design/content standards, in addition to the General Standards listed above, pertain to all Millsaps-hosted personal web pages.

• Personal web pages must not give the impression that they are representing, giving opinions, or otherwise making statements on behalf of the college or any unit of the college unless appropriately authorized (explicitly or implicitly) to do so.
• Personal web pages may not contain the Millsaps identity elements or other symbols of the College unless they pertain specifically to a College function.
  
• The site owner's name and e-mail address must be visible on all pages.
  
• Creators of web pages must not make or use illegal copies of copyrighted materials or software, store such copies on college systems, or transmit them over college networks. (Copyright law pertains to many types of materials, including cartoons, pictures, graphics, text, song lyrics, and sounds -- including most MP3 and other files shared via so-called peer-to-peer procedures).
• The following disclaimer must appear on the index page and any entry pages on all personal websites:
  
  "The views and opinions expressed in these pages are strictly those of [the page author]. The content of these pages has not been reviewed or approved by Millsaps College.”
  
  
• Faculty websites not hosted on Millsaps servers may not be linked directly from department or other official pages on the Millsaps server.
