Student Organization Web Pages
Millsaps College supports websites for student organizations, provided the organization’s status is active according to the Office of the Dean of Students. Each student organization must designate a web representative by completing the Web Representative Form, which must be signed by the organization’s faculty/staff sponsor. Accounts assigned to student organizations are intended for the purpose of publishing information pertaining to the organization. The account should not be used for personal program development, file storage, or other purposes not directly related to the goals of the organization.
Students are allowed to serve as designated web representatives for a student organization or special project websites, provided they are currently enrolled at Millsaps. Students may request an account on the Millsaps web for the sole purpose of maintaining a student organization or special project website by completing the Web Account Application.
The following standards, in addition to the general standards listed above, pertain to all Millsaps-hosted student organization web pages.
- Websites of student organizations are subject to all Millsaps web publishing guidelines if they are published on a Millsaps server, including those that apply specifically to personal web pages. A link from the directory of Registered Student Organizations or any other official college page to the web page of any student organization is provided only when the student organization has met all the requirements set forth by this policy and the Office of the Dean of Students.
- All pages must contain the name and email address of the web representative.
- Creators of web pages must not make or use illegal copies of copyrighted materials or software, store such copies on college systems, or transmit them over college networks. (Copyright law pertains to many types of materials, including cartoons, pictures, graphics, text, song lyrics, and sounds -- including most MP3 and other files shared via so-called peer-to-peer procedures).
