Moving up three spots from #90 to #87 out of 233 colleges, Millsaps College continues to be the top-ranked liberal arts college in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. Millsaps is the only private college in the state to be named a “Best Value,” and is also the only private college recognized by high school counselors as offering the best undergraduate education.
Millsaps College was the only private college in Mississippi included as part of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance rankings of 300 top colleges across the country. Introduced in 1998, the rankings now combine public schools, private universities and private liberal arts colleges into a single, comprehensive list. Kiplinger also ranked the top 100 best values in each category.

In 2016, Forbes ranked Millsaps College as the “Best College in Mississippi.” And, Millsaps is in pretty good company when you look at the universities and colleges recognized in other states – schools like Vanderbilt, Emory, Duke, Rice, and Tulane. The Forbes ranking noted that Millsaps was the first college in Mississippi to establish a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, that students come from more than 27 states and 24 countries (and that more than 40% of our students study abroad), and Millsaps’ emphasis on the liberal arts coupled with business.
Else School of Management at Millsaps College Maintains Prestigious AACSB Business Accreditation
The Else School of Management at Millsaps College has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
Best College Reviews has named Millsaps College and Millsaps College Yucatán one of the top ten best study abroad programs saying, “The unique setting and offerings at Millsaps make it a one-of-a-kind opportunity.” From the Helen Moyers Biocultural Reserve in Kiuic, Millsaps Puuc Archaeological Research Center (MPARC) in Oxkutzcab, and the living learning community of the Millsaps Else School Center for Business and Research (Casa Millsaps) in Mérida, there are many opportunities for our students to learn in Yucatan.
