First-Year Experience

2016 Foundation Leaders

First-Year Experience at Millsaps College is comprised of two experiences for students just beginning their time at Millsaps. The first is Summer Orientation a time for students to get acquainted with their future home, and the second is Foundations, an interactive program that helps you integrate into the Millsaps community throughout your first semester on campus.

It is our hope that your first-year experience helps you find your home on campus and get connected with peers, staff, and faculty who will support you and push you to thrive during your years at Millsaps College.

Summer Orientation focuses on the nuts and bolts of class selection and getting comfortable with the Millsaps College environment. You’ll attend one of our three one-day sessions dedicated to ironing out class selection and other academic preparation details. These sessions prepare you for the classes you’ll be taking during your first semester. You’ll work in small groups and one-on-one with academic advisors to select classes.

Please visit Summer Orientation for more details about next year’s orientation.

Foundations is an exciting, interactive program that supports your integration into the Millsaps community with the support of upper-class leaders. During your first semester at Millsaps, you will participate in weekly group meetings, participate in campus events and get involved with lots of opportunities within the local community. While this program is a graduation requirement for all first year students, it hardly feels that way, as you’ll establish strong bonds with the other students in your group and the entire freshmen class.

When you arrive in August, you will meet your Foundations Leaders who will lead your weekly Foundations group meeting during your first semester. Meetings will cover topics such as campus involvement opportunities and transition to college life.
