Dear Students,

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were both safe and joyous.

Last semester was made exceptionally unusual because of COVID-19; but in true Major fashion, you rose to the occasion and did an extraordinary job implementing the college’s COVID-19 guidelines and community expectations. Unlike many colleges and universities across the country as well as in Mississippi, we were among a small group of colleges both able to return to in-person classes in the middle of August and to experience relatively low positive case rates.

Millsaps’ faculty and staff owe you a debt of gratitude for how you conducted yourselves last semester. By consistently following the college’s COVID-19 guidelines and protocols like wearing masks, practicing social distancing and tracking your symptoms, we are pleased to report that there were no cases of coronavirus transmission traced to any formal college activity last semester.

As you look forward to coming back to campus on Monday, January 25, please remember that we all must continue to stay vigilant to protect the health of our community. I ask that, to the best of your ability, you begin limiting your interactions with others to keep your risk rate as low as possible. Consider getting your flu shot and make sure you bring adequate supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer. As you travel, avoid close contact with others by staying at least six feet apart, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Although COVID-19 protocols will again be in force upon your return, we all must be mindful of doing our part now to limit COVID-19 exposure on our campus.

Thank you for all that you are doing to keep your friends and faculty safe.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Best,

Dean Demi Brown
