Distinguished Alumnus Lecture “A Southerner’s Reflections on Liberal Education” with Dr. Ed Schrader

April 8 @ 1:00 pm

Join us in McMullan Lecture Hall on April 8 at 1 p.m. to hear from Dr. Ed Schrader. He will be discussing the topic, “A Southerner’s Reflections on Liberal Education”. A reception will follow in the Nicholson Garden (located near the Welty Statue).

2:00 p.m. – Campus Tours, departs from Christian Center lobby
Guided tour of campus provided by current student Presidential Ambassadors.  Golf carts available for transportation.

2:30 p.m. – Visiting Writer Series – join us for a reception in the Nicholson Garden. Thomas Richardson (’08) will present a reading from his new poetry collection, How to Read. MS Poet Laureate Catherine Pierce will also read from her work. Co-sponsored by the Millsaps Visiting Writer’s Series, Religious Studies Department, and the Eudora Welty Foundation.

3:00 p.m. Geoscience Department Happy Hour and Student Poster Session, 1st floor Sullivan Harrell Hall

5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Alumni Awards, Country Club of Jackson (CCJ)

Cocktail Reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of awards at 6:00 p.m.  Join us at the Country Club of Jackson as we recognize and honor the 2021 Distinguished Alumnus, Ed Schrader (’73), the Outstanding Young Alumna, Lamees El-sadek  (’11), Livesay award recipients (Steve Franks ’68) and Martha Cooke (’88),  Leadership in Giving and Spirit of Giving recipients. Registration required.

This year represents the 50th and 51st anniversary for the Classes of 1970 and 1971.  50th Reunion Weekend package is $100/person and includes admission to four events for the classes of 1970-1971.

All alumni are invited to gather at our favorite off-campus hang out. We especially  look forward to seeing 2010-2011 (10 year), 2000-2001 (20 year), 1990 -1991 (30 year), and 1980-1981 (40 year) reunion classes. Cash bar. Enjoy burgers on us!

Selby and Richard McRae Christian Center.
50th Year Reunion Classes of 1970-1971 will enjoy a casual brunch followed by a presentation of medals.

11:00 a.m. Geoscience Department Open House and Coffee, 1st Floor Sullivan-Harrell Hall

12:00 p.m. All-Alumni Spring Social in the Bowl
$20/per adult – Includes food, 2 drink tickets, live music. Ages 13-20 are $10. Kids 12 and under free.   Enjoy great food, drink, live music and activities for the kids while visiting with alumni and friends!

12:00 p.m. Lambda Chi Alpha Founder’s Day, Lambda Chi House Courtyard
Crawfish and BBQ at 12:00 p.m. Lambda Chi Alumni Awards at 2:00pm.

6:00 p.m. Geology Department Reunion – Cocktail Meet and Greet, President’s Home  

5:30pm –7:30pm Centennial Celebration of the Millsaps Chapter of Lambda Chi AlphaSelby and Richard McRae Christian Center. Alumni, actives, and friends are invited to join Lambda Chi Alpha’s Centennial Celebration.  Refreshments at 5:30 p.m., Ceremony at 6: 00.pm., Reception at 6:45pm.  Business casual – coat and tie preferred.
