He has presented solo piano recitals of contemporary music in Dallas, Houston, Cincinnati, and New York and given concert-talks on contemporary music at the Juilliard School, Rice University, Westminster Choir College, Anderson University, and the Taipei National University of the Arts. His commitment to the music of our time has brought him engagements at the Santa Fe and Florida international festivals of electro-acoustic music, the New Music New College series in Sarasota FL, and contemporary music festivals in Texas, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee.
As a Fulbright Scholar in 2012-13, Raley was visiting professor in the Institute of Music at the National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. That year he gave a solo recital of American contemporary piano music at the Taipei International New Music Festival, and toured the island performing the music of Taiwanese composers, sponsored by the International Society for Contemporary Music. In 2015, he and baritone James Martin performed in Taiwan and in Thailand at the Burapha Music and Performing Arts International Festival.
In the US he has performed with the Houston Symphony under Akira Endo, Cincinnati Philharmonia under Gerhard Samuel, Rutgers Summerfest Orchestra under Carl St. Clair, and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra under Crafton Beck. Chamber music collaborations include the José White Quartet of Cuba, the Amabilé Quartet, and as a member of Trio Appassionato with violinist Marta Szlubowska and cellist Alexander Russakovsky.
In 2018 he released two world premiere recordings in the space of four months on Nimbus Records. BBC Music Magazine called his CD Mäelstrom: Contemporary American Piano Music “thoughtfully compiled and skillfully performed” and “a highly commendable release, offering rich insight into contemporary American music for piano.” The solo album features music by Augusta Read Thomas, Wayne Peterson, Eric Moe, and Charles Wuorinen.
Raley can also be heard performing solo and chamber works by Jonathan D. Kramer and James Dashow on the Leonarda and Capstone labels.
