Ann Day Becker, MBA

Ann is senior manager of sustainability with Entergy Corporation. She is an expert in leveraging the art and science of storytelling to add sustainable value to company brands through social and traditional media strategies, targeted messaging and sustainability reporting. Ann holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Business Administration, both from Millsaps College. She serves as support faculty to Millsaps’ traditional and executive MBA programs.

Terrence Black

Terrence Black, MBA

Terrence is director of human resources business partners with Entergy Corporation. He is an experienced human resources expert with a demonstrated history of inspiring change. Skilled in change management, organizational effectiveness, and leadership, business, and organizational development. Terrence holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Mississippi and a Masters of Business Administration from Millsaps College.

What is the Black Swan?

What do the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2008 Housing Crisis, the Dot.Com Bubble, and Long-Term Capital Management have in common?  They are all Black Swan events.

A black swan is an extremely rare event with severe consequences. It cannot be predicted beforehand, though after the fact, many falsely claim it should have been predictable.

Black swan events can cause catastrophic damage to an economy by negatively impacting markets and investments, but even the use of robust modeling cannot prevent a black swan event.  The term was popularized by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a finance professor, writer, and former Wall Street trader in his 2007 book titled The Black Swan.

Bill Brister

Bill Brister, PhD

Bill joined the faculty of Millsaps College in 1989.  In his 31 year tenure, he has taught Corporate Finance, Investments, and Financial Markets and Institutions.  Dr. Brister has publishes in the subject areas of Portfolio Construction and Corporate Debt.  He has also led National and Statewide Research Projects and is often hired as an expert forensic economist in litigation matters in Federal and State Courts.

Dr. Brister earned a B.S. degree in Economics and an M.B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi.  He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas with a major in Finance.

Joseph Martin

Joseph Martin, MBA

Joseph is a Financial Analyst at New Perspectives, Inc., a local financial advisory firm in Jackson, MS. He recently passed his Series 65 Securities Examination and took the CFA Level II Examination in December 2020 (results pending).

​As a Millsaps MBA graduate student, Joseph participated in the management of Millsap’s Louis Wilson Fund (LWF). The LWF is a student managed fund which partakes in the active management of a portion of the college’s endowment. As part of LWF, students participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. As a member of the 2019 team, Joseph and his classmates won the Mid-South Regional Competition in Memphis, TN.

Joseph earned his B.B.A. in Business Administration and M.B.A. from Millsaps College.

Ray Grubbs

Ray Grubbs, PhD

Ray joined the faculty of the Else School of Management in January of 1987. In the classroom, he likes to blend theory and practice. “I have observed over the years that a deep dive into theory is the best way to teach a practitioner about improving their practice of management.”

His industry experience is primarily in banking, having worked for banks either as an employee, consultant or board member since he was 17 years old. He continues to consult to the banking industry and serves on the Board of First Commercial Bank in Jackson and Chair the Bank’s Risk Management Committee. In addition to his banking background, he has consulted with a wide range of private sector, non-for-profit and governmental organizations over the past 30 years.

Dr. Grubbs earned a B.S. in Psychology from Millsaps College an M.B.A. from Mississippi College, and a Ph.D. in Management from The University of Mississippi.

Eric Graham

Eric Graham, JD, MBA, MPPA

Eric Graham has made a career of strategy, having led North American regulatory affairs for the low-earth orbit satellite company OneWeb, as well as strategy and corporate development for C Spire. Today he is the founder and principal of The Graham Group which provides strategic consulting services to businesses and non-profits, and he is also a principal at LMI Advisors where he provides regulatory consulting services to satellite companies around the world.

A Mississippi native, he received both a B.A. and M.P.P.A. from Mississippi State University, a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law, and an executive M.B.A. from the Else School of Management at Millsaps College.

LeAnne Brewer

LeAnne Brewer is director of Executive and Continuing Education at Millsaps College Else School of Management. Through these market-driven programs, Millsaps offers non-degree professional development and leadership training to Mississippi’s business and non-profit communities.

LeAnne spent the first twenty-three years of her career in television ad sales management with LoveComm. While serving as President of LoveComm, she was recognized in 2006 as one of Mississippi Business Journal’s 50 Leading Business Women.

A native of Winona, MS, LeAnne is a 1988 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Millsaps with a B.A. in English and a 2019 Executive M.B.A. graduate of Millsaps.

Damon Campbell

Damon Campbell, PhD

Damon is an associate professor of management information systems and the Kelley Gene Cook, Sr. Chair of Business Administration at the Else School of Management. He teaches applied topics, including Information Systems, Analytics, and Survey of Management. His preferred teaching style is to give students as much OJT (On-the-Job-Training) as he can by putting students in as many real world (or closer to real world) situations.

Dr. Campbell’s research interests include e-commerce, humancomputer interaction, and interface design. He has published in Information Systems Research, Decision Sciences, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and other journals and conference proceedings.

Dr. Campbell earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Lewis Clark State College and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in Information Systems from Washington State University.

Gerad Hardy

Gerad Hardy, MBA

Gerad Hardy is an engaging business leader with more than 25 years of experience in leading and developing teams in executing successful operational strategies.  A dynamic hospitality industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience, He describes his current role as both a Visiting Instructor at Millsaps and an experienced business leader as allowing him the opportunity to guide today’s and tomorrow’s business leaders in growing themselves, their teams, and their businesses.

Gerad earned a B.S. in Business Management from SUNY Empire State College and his Executive M.B.A. from Millsaps College. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Leadership Mississippi program and holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University.

Monika Rawal

Monika Rawal, PhD

Monika joined the Else School of Management faculty in 2019. She teaches courses in the marketing area of focus of the MBA program, including Marketing Research and Brand Management. “I love to teach these courses because they provide knowledge that can help students in any business related career. These courses make students understand the importance of customer value and relationships.”

Monika received her B.S. Chemical Engineering in 2008 from Pune University, India, an M.B.A. from Jamia Millia Islamia University, India, and her PhD in Marketing from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Julia Williams, MBA

Julia has a unique background in customer service, project management, logistics, and marketing. With over seven years in the field, she has extensive experience managing teams, social media, and businesses. During her graduate studies, Julia started her own business, High LVL Consulting, where she focuses on social media management and marketing and other tasks small businesses find daunting to complete!

Julia holds an Associate of Arts degree from Hinds Community College, a Bachelor of Business Administration/Management from Jackson State University, and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Marketing from Millsaps College.
