Assistant Men’s & Women’s Swim Coach

Job Summary

Millsaps College, a NCAA Division III institution located in Jackson, Mississippi and member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), is seeking applicants for a full-time, 10-month position as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swim Coach.

This position will report to the Head Swim Coach and has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2021.

The Assistant Swim Coach reports directly to the Head Coach Brian Ware.  This position shares responsibility for the success of the Athletics program at Millsaps College.  The Assistant Swim Coach supports the head coach and supports the Department of Athletics mission and goals as well as the mission and goals of the larger campus community.

Job Duties

  • Comprehend the NCAA Division III philosophy emphasizing academic, athletics;
  • Recruit and evaluate high school and college athletes within college admissions and NCAA Division III guidelines;
  • Provide in pool coaching of athlete skill development;
  • Assist in the planning of practice sessions;
  • Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling;
  • Coordinate team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals;
  • Assist with fund-raising programs to augment operations budget;
  • Maintain parent and alumnae communication;
  • Accept additional duties assigned by the Athletics Director.
  • Comply with all NCAA Division III, Southern Athletic Association (SAA), and Millsaps College guidelines;
  • Accept game-day administrator obligations each semester, if necessary;
  • Organize community service activities for team members and coaches;
  • Participate in various other areas of interest for the College, and Department of Athletics.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • College varsity coaching experience or related experience preferred
  • Desire to continue fostering a strong scholarship-athletic program through creative and educational means
  • Eligibility for employment is contingent upon successful completion of background screening.
