As the various paths of our alumni/ae demonstrate, Millsaps students that major or minor in sociology and anthropology move into a diverse array of fields after they graduate. Students find that their education in the disciplines of anthropology and sociology combined with a high quality liberal arts education rooted in writing, critical thinking, and problem solving prepares them well for just about any path they choose. Many of our alumni pursue multiple paths in the years after they graduate from Millsaps. Click on some of the paths mentioned on this page in order to read specific stories about students that have followed those paths.
We have a proven track record of success in sending our students on to graduate school to pursue masters or doctoral degrees. In fact, those graduate programs often ask us to send more of our students their way after they've had a chance to work with one of our graduates. Sociology and anthropology alumni/ae also regularly matriculate in top-notch professional schools for advanced degrees in medicine, public health, law, and social work. We've also had Fulbright scholars to Albania and Jordan in recent years. In addition to further study, alumni/ae also move into a wide variety of jobs domestically and internationally. These paths include work as teachers, community development facilitators, and a number of other possibilities.
