On his first day as President of Millsaps College, Dr. Pearigen indicated the importance of alumni to his administration by meeting with alumni and development directors to plan his travel schedule. Alumni Online Giving Increases

Millsaps College Annual Fund - Donate Today!Because of your participation, we have had nearly 200 alumni donors to give online before June 30. Thank you! Alumni involvement in giving is extremely important, regardless of the gift amount. With your help, alumni participation rates will increase for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Many of you made a gift and then emailed or phoned your friends to do the same. It takes all levels of participation to increase our totals and we could not have had successful online giving without your help.

More details pertaining to the alumni percentages in giving will be made available in the coming weeks once our books are closed.

In the meantime, if you have had any trouble donating online please try again. Our online giving form had a few glitches here and there, but now everything should be working properly. Any online gifts made before Sunday, July 4, will be added to the 2009-2010 list of donors. The link for online giving is: https://secure.millsaps.edu/devoff/af/pledge.html.

Thank you again for your participation. You make the difference for Millsaps College.

Katie Sorey
Katie Sorey

Katie O'Neal Sorey, a senior at Millsaps College, is the recipient of a 2010 Fund for Theological Education Undergraduate Fellowship. The fellowship recognizes students who have gifts for leadership and are exploring ministry as a vocation.

Sorey will receive $2,000 for tuition, other educational expenses or a self-designed experience related to ministry.

She will be among 40 fellows who will attend the 2010 FTE Leaders in Ministry Conference at Boston University School of Theology that is scheduled from Wednesday through June 20.

"I'll attend workshops about spiritual development and leadership in the church," she said. "The conference is an opportunity to see the breadth and depth of Christian ministry and how young people can engage."

Dr. James E. Bowley, professor of religious studies at Millsaps, nominated Sorey for the fellowship award that is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.

"Katie's remarkable devotion to her church and her commitment to service of others are wonderfully matched by her joy of learning and desire for true academic scholarship," Bowley said.

Millsaps College Named "Best Buy" in 2011 Fiske Guide

Fiske Guide to Colleges, 2011Millsaps College is one of only 24 private colleges and the only college in Mississippi named a "Best Buy" in the 2011 edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges. The rating is based on reasonable prices, high academic ratings and quality of student life on campus.

"Millsaps offers students a good value for an exceptional education. Our faculty are nationally recognized and our class size on average is 10 students to one faculty member. Students have the opportunity to get to know their instructors on a personal level that will further their academic success," said David Davis, interim vice president and dean of the College.

The list includes 45 colleges, 21 public and 24 private, as Best Buys. The Fiske Guide to Colleges by Edward B. Fiske features more than 300 of the country's best colleges and universities. The guide describes schools passed on topics such as academics, student life and financial aid.

Millsaps has been consistently recognized by the guidebook since its inception in 1982. In the past, the guide has given Millsaps high marks for its Heritage Program, an interdisciplinary approach to world culture, and premedical summer research fellowships. In 2008 the guidebook said, "what differentiates the school is its focus on scholarly inquiry, spiritual growth and community service."
