Constitution
of the
Millsaps Anthropology Club
Adopted in the Spring Semester of the year 2001

Article I

The Millsaps Anthropology Club is a student-driven organization not currently affiliated with any other regional, state, or national anthropology clubs. It is unique to the Millsaps community, but does interact with other organizations in order to promote the anthropological goals and endeavors of the organization.

Article II—Purpose

The purpose of the Millsaps Anthropology Club is to promote research, awareness, and overall interest in anthropology, past, present, and future, within the Millsaps community.

Article III—Membership

All who share a common interest in the study of anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, and any or all human endeavors are eligible for membership within the Millsaps Anthropology Club.

Article IV—Officers

Only Anthropology or Sociology majors and/or minors should hold official posts to ensure appropriate actualization of Article II (Purpose).

The officers of the Millsaps Anthropology Club shall include:

A) Co-President (2): Official duties shall include overseeing the activities of the other officers such that the club maintains a high-standard for achievement and structure. The two Co-Presidents shall coordinate activities, serve as the primary mediator of meetings, and interact with the faculty and professional advisor(s).

B) Vice-President: Official duties shall include working with the Co-Presidents to coordinate activities, overseeing the other officers’ responsibilities, and promoting club activities on and off campus.

C) Secretary: Official duties shall include relaying messages to the club members and maintaining a record of the group’s major activities, including taking minutes during meetings and excursions.

D) Treasurer: Official duties shall include maintaining the budget each academic year with the Millsaps Student Body Association, establishing a budget for the club, and maintaining a record of funds and any activities fees necessary for club activities.

All positions will be acquired based on elections held in the Spring of each academic year. The officers’ terms begin in the Fall semester and last until the end of the Spring semester. Thus the officers elected in the Spring elections will not assume power until the start of the following Fall semester.
Any officer expressing the need to abdicate their post due to academic or personal conflict shall be allowed to do so, as long as another qualified individual is capable to fill the position efficiently.

Article V—Meetings

Meetings shall be held at least once per month (bi-monthly is preferred) in an appropriate location agreed upon by the student leaders. The meetings are to be organized and conducted by the student officers and should be open to the students, staff, and faculty (a.k.a. the Millsaps Community).

Article VI—Dues

Dues shall be considered in the Fall of each academic year as concerns the needs and expenses of the organization.

Article VII—Amendments

Amendments and revisions to this constitution shall be enacted when addressed at an official meeting, wherein the officials and students present shall vote on the concerns at hand. Quorum for the amendment process requires the presence of all faculty advisors, all club officers, and at least five additional club members when possible.
