JACKSON --
Millsaps pounded out 19 hits and took advantage of 13 walks given
up by Huntingdon to cruise to a 21-2 midweek non-conference win
at Twenty Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore catcher Russ Boyd (bottom right) paced the Millsaps
offense, going 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, a stolen base
and five
RBIs,
while 13 different Majors recorded a hit.
Millsaps plated three runs in the third, five
in the fourth, one in the fifth, nine in the sixth (off five
hits and two errors) and three in the eighth to improve to 5-0
at home and 8-2 overall on the young season.
Sophomore OF/LHP Tait Hendrix picked up his first win of the
season, striking out a season-high eight batters and retiring
11 of the first 12 he faced. Hendrix allowed no runs, a walk
and two hits in five innings of work.
Seniors Justin Carter and Luke Morrow also had solid afternoons
at the plate, with Carter going 3-for-6 with two runs scored
and Morrow batting 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
For the Hawks, junior P/DH Taylor Files was 2-for-4
at the plate despite giving up eight runs, seven walks and six
hits
in 3 2/3 innings on the mound for the loss. Blake Toole was also
2-for-4 at the plate with a single and a double.
The 13th-ranked Millsaps Majors (8-2) and the 19th-ranked Emory
University Eagles (5-0) will open up a two-game series at Twenty
Field this weekend. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m.
start with Sunday's game slated for a noon first pitch.
