Majors Defeat Aurora 11-3; Advance in Regional Tournament

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — The Millsaps Majors defeated Aurora (Ill.) University by a final score of 11-3 at the NCAA Central Regional Tournament hosted by Washington University. The win against Aurora allows Millsaps to advance one more spot the winner’s bracket.

The Majors will take on #6 seed Mount St. Joseph tomorrow, Thursday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo. Mount St. Joseph is the only other undefeated at the Central Regional Tournament with wins over #1 seed Carthage and #3 seed Washington University. Two teams were eliminated from the central regional today– Webster University and Washington University – were both suffered their second loss of the tournament, ending their season,

The Majors took a commanding lead in the top of the second inning, stringing together five runs. Sophomore Derrik Boland walked with one out and junior Luke Morrow followed with a base hit to center field. Morrow and Boland advanced to second and third base, respectively, on a passed ball, and junior John Pacillo followed with a two-RBI single to right field. Freshman Russ Boyd then reached first when his ground ball bounced through the AU first baseman’s glove, allowing Pacillo to score from second base. Boyd scored on junior Nick Crawford’s double to left field, and Crawford crossed home plate when junior Jason Hadley singled. Those runs would prove to be the difference maker today as the Majors pitching was too much for Aurora.

Senior right hander Todd Kindler (10-2) threw a complete game today for his 10th win of the season. Kindler scattered eight hits and gave up three runs (two earned), fanned three and walked two batters.

Junior center fielder John Pacillo was 3 for 5 including his first collegiate homerun – a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning  - and four RBI’s. Second basemen Nick Crawford was 3 for 6 with one RBI.

The Majors combined for 16 hits as they continue their offensive explosion in St. Louis. Millsaps has outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 26 – 4. With the win the Majors improve to 36-11 on the season and move one step closer to winning the central regional.
