JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps College Majors won a 5-4 ten-inning Maloney Series game against Mississippi College Tuesday night at Smith-Wills Stadium to improve their Maloney Series record to 3-0 this season. The Majors are now 15-6 on the season.
The loss drops MC to 1-3 in the Maloney Series race.
The Majors scored the game-winner in the top of the tenth inning when Millsaps' John Pacillo scored on a Jody Britt error. Tal Hendrix earned the win to improve to 3-4 with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Hendrix allowed no hits and struck out two batters.
Garner Wetzel led the Majors with a pair of RBI's on two hits. Luke Morrow collected three hits driving in one run.
The Choctaws took the early lead scoring twice in the second inning on a Millsaps error and John Birdsong's third homerun of the season. A Jody Britt double in the third scored Ben Lennard making the score 3-0 Choctaws.
Millsaps answered with a Hunter Abrams run in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth tie the score 3-3. In the fifth Hayes Brian scored on a Choctaw error and Nick Crawford crossed the plate on a Garner Wetzel single.
Millsaps took a brief lead in the seventh when Wetzel drove in Jason Hadley. MC tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Marc Chisholm scored on a John Birdsong ground out.
The Majors will begin a four game road trip this weekend starting with Rust College in Holly Springs on Friday. The Majors then return to conference play with a three game series against Hendrix in Conway, Ark.
