With the threat of rain on Sunday, coaches
from Rhodes and Millsaps decided to squeeze two nine-inning games
in on Saturday at Twenty Field. It was the right call as showers
covered the metro Jackson area on Sunday.
The Majors won both games 10-4 and
are now 3-0 on the season with a 2-0 SCAC mark.
The Lynx picked up a run in the top of the
first inning in game one on a Dan Vanaman single. But the Majors
answered with a run of their own in the first.
Nick Crawford led off the Majors end of the
innning with a hit by pitch, his third of the season. Ryan Skertich
drove him in with a sacrifice fly to left.
Majors starter Doug Garner lasted 2.2 innings
after allowing two runs on six hits yielding to pitcher Brandon
Ingram after the Majors allowed two more runs in the third inning.
Rhodes led 3-1 at that point.
The Majors came alive in the next three innings
scoring four runs before picking up five runs in the seventh inning
to take a 10-4 lead.
Skertich finished 2-5 with four RBIs and
leftfielder Jason Hadley went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game one
win. Crawford had scored three times and batted in two Majors. Derek
Boland and Luke Morrow had one RBI each. Tal Hendrix (1.0 3.00)
picked up the win in game one.
The Majors picked up two runs in the first
inning of Game 2 as Skertich and Joe Blades drove in Crawford
and Hadley on sacrifice flies. The Lynx took the lead though in
the second with three runs on starter Todd Kindler.
Kindler (1-0 5.40) allowed just one other
run in his 5.0 innings of work giving up seven hits and striking
out three Lynx hitters while picking up the win.
Lynx starter Robert Falan allowed seven runs
in five innings to get the loss.
Ben Wilson went 2-3 with two RBIs and Morrow
picked up two RBIs. Hunter Owen had a pinch-hit double that plated
two Majors runs and Skertich went 2-4 with two RBIs.
