SAN ANTONIO, Tex.. — The Millsaps Majors defeated SCAC opponent Trinity in a double header played on Saturday, Feb. 25.
In the first game of the day, the Majors came out swinging, jumping out to an early lead over the Tigers. The game began by Millsaps player Nick Crawford being hit by a Trinity pitch. He was batted in off of Justin Carter RBI, Carter eventually crossed the plate, along with two other Majors. Millsaps took a 4-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.
While Trinity struggled, unable to produce a single run in the first, the Majors continued their scoring rout in the second inning of play, scoring an additional four runs. The Majors, however, were helped by Trinity. The Tigers had three errors in the first two innings, giving up five unearned runs. At the end of the second, the Majors led 8-0.
Millsaps scored an additional run in the third. The Tigers, however, were not able to mount an offense until the seventh inning when they scored three runs. Millsaps took the win, 9-3, giving Millsaps pitcher John Fox his second win of the young season.
In the second game of the day, Millsaps again took the early lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning of play. Trinity, however, was able to produce runs early in this game, scoring three runs of their own in the second inning, taking a 3-2 lead over Millsaps.
The Majors fought back and scored three more runs in the third. Garner Wetzel singled to left, allowing Jason Hadley to score, giving Wetzel his second RBI of the contest. Wetzel and Justin Carter later scored in the inning off of a Hunter Abrams’ single. Going into the fourth, Millsaps held a 5-3 advantage.
The Majors and Tigers each scored a run in the fourth, and Millsaps scored again in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to win the game 9-4. Todd Kindler took the win for the Majors and Tait Hendrix the save.
Millsaps will take on Trinity again on Sunday to complete the three game weekend series.
