The game, another of the increasingly typical battles the Majors have
partaken in throughout the season, began with an early Majors lead. After
scoring on a Tyler Warren lay-up followed by an Edrick Montgomery jump
shot to begin the game, the Majors built an eight point lead by the 12:43
point in the first half. Centre, however, continued to play strong, shooting
close to 90 percent from the free throw line. With the help of the free
throws, the Colonels took a one-point advantage, their first lead of
the game, with close to seven minutes left in the half.
Millsaps was able to reclaim the lead, though, going into their locker
room at the half, with a 31-27 Major advantage in the game.
Centre was reenergized to begin the second, taking the
Majors by surprise and gaining the early advantage. The Majors’ halftime
lead diminished as Centre built a seven-point advantage over the visiting
Millsaps.
However, with a little more than seven minutes to play in the contest,
the Majors took the momentum as Allen Odum stole the ball from Centre.
The Majors followed the steal with successful free throw shots and shots
from the field. Before Centre could respond, the score was tied at 50.
As the game pulled to a close, Millsaps senior Tyler Warren scored on
two consecutive lay ups and three consecutive free throws, sealing the
win for the Majors.
Millsaps shot only 35 percent for the game. Warren led the way in scoring
with 17 total points and six rebounds. The Majors will next take on Sewanee
on Feb. 5.
