COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior
guard Melanie Auguste came within one rebound of her second triple-double
of the season with 12 assists, 10 points and nine rebounds and
three other players scored in double figures for Colorado College
as they topped the visitors from Millsaps 65-48 to improve to
6-6 overall and 2-2 in SCAC play.
Colorado College jumped on top early
with a 15-3 run to open the game and led by as many as 24 in
the first half as Eliese Hanberry knocked down a free throw with
38 seconds remaining in the period to give the Tigers a 37-15
halftime lead.
The Tigers shot 45 percent from the
floor in the opening frame, using 10 points apiece from Paige
Whitney and Hansberry, while holding Millsaps to a season-worst
13 percent shooting on 3-of-23 aim. Junior Tiffany
Whitmore knocked
down two of the Majors' three shots while fellow junior LaReina
Adams added the other.
Millsaps (2-9, 0-4 SCAC) trailed the
entire second half but turned the poor-shooting from the first
half around, shooting a season-high 60 percent in the second
thanks in large part to Adams who hit 6-of-7 from the floor.
The Tigers opened the half with a
19-8 run and led by a game-high 33 points on a Liz Kolbe 3-pointer
with 12:32 left in regulation before Millsaps closed the game
on a 25-9 spurt to cut the final deficit to 17 points at 65-48.
Whitmore and Adams chipped in 14 points
apiece to lead the Majors, while junior Crystal
Dickerson added
nine rebounds and eight points.
Millsaps will
continue a three-game road stretch on Sunday, playing Austin
College at 1 p.m. in Sherman, Texas. They close the trip
with a non-conference game at the University of Dallas at 3 p.m.
on Monday. The Majors knocked off Dallas 57-41 in Jackson this
year.
