Bowie Named to D3hoops.com National Team of the Week
Junior from Collierville, Tenn., becomes first Millsaps women's selection

January 23, 2008

STERLING, Va. After averaging 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.5 blocks in a weekend split at home to help Millsaps snap a 15-game conference losing streak, junior center Jessica Bowie has been named to the National Team of the Week by D3hoops.com.

She becomes the first female selection for Millsaps in D3hoops.com Team of the Week history (1997-98) and the first overall selection (male or female) since Daniel Waguespack was selected to the Team of the Week for games played Dec. 3-16, 2000.

In a narrow loss to Oglethorpe on Friday, 74-67, Bowie recorded the first known triple-double at Millsaps with 15 points, 10 rebounds and an unprecedented 11 blocks.

She followed that up with a game/career-high 22 points and 14 rebounds to go along with two blocks, two steals and an assist on Sunday to help the Majors defeat Sewanee 60-55.

For the weekend, Bowie shot 57 percent (13-of-23) from the floor and 85 percent (11-of-13) from the charity stripe. Her 13 blocks on the weekend moved her into third in the league with 29 in just 10 games played.

The Majors will be back in action Friday, Jan. 25, traveling to Centre to open a two-game road swing with the Lady Colonels and reigning national champion DePauw University.
