JACKSON -- Five
different DePauw players reached double figures, including senior
Bridget Bailey and freshman Emily Marshall who notched career
bests, as the 10th-ranked Lady Tigers rolled to their sixth straight
victory on Sunday afternoon at the Hangar Dome 88-57.
For DePauw, it marked the fourth consecutive game that they didn't
trail at all.
Millsaps head coach Mary Bolton was forced
to call a 30-second timeout
just
1:25
into
the game
when
the
Tigers
jumped
out to
a quick 7-0 lead on a pair of jumpers from
Marshall
and
Liz
Bondi
and
a 3-point
basket
from
Kalei Lowes.
The Majors calmly regained their composure and got on the scoreboard
when freshman Marianne Smith hit a 3-pointer that sent Millsaps
on a 10-4 run to close the gap to 11-10 at the 10:35 mark in
the first half.
Unfortunately for Millsaps (3-15, 1-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference), that's as close as they would get, as the Tigers
closed the half on a 32-12 run to take a 43-22 lead at intermission.
The Majors hung tough in the second half, only being outscored
45-35 as the Tigers emptied their bench and allowed 10 different
players to see playing time, including Caitlin McGonigal who
chipped in 14 points and seven boards in 19 minutes.
Millsaps was led by sophomore LaReina Adams, who fell four rebounds
shy of her 11th double-double, with a team-leading 14 points
and six rebounds.
Three other Majors were in double figures, with Deborah Sturgis
chipping in 13 points, Leslie Frese adding 12 and Crystal Dickerson
with 10.
Millsaps will continue a stretch of four consecutive home games
this weekend and will try and get back in the win column, playing
host to Southwestern University at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2,
and Trinity University at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
SCAC games are usually played on Friday and Sunday, but with
travel conflicts, this weekend's games will be played on Friday
and Saturday.
