JACKSON – Junior
Melanie Auguste fell four assists shy of a triple-double
with 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and the visitors
from Colorado College finished the game on a 12-4 run to win
51-43 and spoil an important SCAC victory for Millsaps on
Friday.
With just four games left on the conference
slate, including trips to Trinity University and Southwestern
University, Millsaps will likely have to win at least three of
the remaining four to be eligible for the
fourth
and
final
playoff
spot
in
the SCAC
West.
Millsaps (5-16, 2-9 SCAC) never led
in the ballgame but stayed within five or six points the entire
contest, knotting the score three times in the first half before
falling in the end by eight points to a team that seemed almost
identical on the court.
Three times in the final 6 minutes
of regulation the Majors pulled to within 1-point, just to see
the Tigers stretch the lead to a bucket on a pair of free throws.
Entering the final stretch, CC had hit only 7-of-15 shots at
the charity stripe before Auguste connected on her final six
attempts when it mattered the most.
Junior Jessica
Bowie had another solid
game for Millsaps, falling just three blocks shy of her second
triple-double of the year after finishing with 13 points, 10
rebounds and seven swats. Tiffany
Whitmore was the only other
Major in double figures, adding 10 points.
For CC, Casey Drillette added 13 points
off the bench and Paige Whitney had 11.
Millsaps will wrap up a five-game
homestand on Sunday, playing host to SCAC-foe Austin College
at 1 p.m. in the Hangar Dome. The Majors fell to the 'Roos earlier
this year in Sherman, Texas, by a 69-46 score.
Notes:
Millsaps wore pink t-shirts during warmups to show support for
Breast Cancer Awareness.
