Lady Majors get revenge over Rust College
(Ashley Wilbourn)
After losing to Rust College at the Huntingdon Tournament over the weekend, the
Lady Majors were eager to get revenge. High percentage free throw shooting allowed
them to do just that as the team defeated Rust by a score of 62-56.
Although Millsaps initially fell behind in the contest, the first half turned
into a close battle between the two teams. By the middle of the half, Millsaps
had taken a substantial lead over Rust with a score of 18-12 at the 10:25 mark.
Their lead continued to grow as Rust continued to commit fouls, allowing Millsaps
to take advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line. At the 4:06
point of the first half, the Lady Majors had built up a lead of 30-19. Their
lead held, and they went into the locker room with a 32-24 lead.
Rust attempted to come back in the second half, but their sloppy play did not
allow them to complete their task. Rust fouled the Majors 17 times in the game.
Millsaps shot 73.5% form the free throw line, gaining 25 points from these
shots. This gave them the victory as the team only shot 28.8% from the field
for the game.
Miranda Rosar led the way for Millsaps with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Martha
McDaniel had 8 points and seven rebounds. The win brings the Lady Majors record
to 2-1 for the season. They will next play on Dec. 6 at Rust College before
traveling to Birmingham Southern on Dec. 11.
